We often are asked about staff directories, people profile, and more technical aspects like linking up with Active Directory.
The conversation often turns to finding the people you are looking for. This might be using the permission system and filtering – for example some groups might relate to departments, so filtering for everyone in support in a staff list is a simple way to find support staff wherever they are, and of course how to contact them.
More powerful is the ability for each Claromentis customer to completely customise what they store about users, and have those fields instantly searchable to anyone who is given permissions to see them.
Combined with self service – allowing the users to complete their own information for certain fields, this becomes surprisingly useful.
For example – a significant company of consultants wanted the ability to find out what experience their teams had in particular sectors. This is because previous experience was valuable when executing projects, but also to the marketing teams when completing RFPs. They wanted to show teams of people that had experience in Telecoms when they were bidding for new work in that sector.
The old way of course is to blast everyone with an email, asking for replies from anyone with that experience.
The new way is to provide self service fields asking for sector experience, and then these are instantly available in a people search.
No reports need, no emails, just type ‘Telecoms’ into a people list and there is the list of everyone with that experience.
It gets better though – I am not restricted to the standard staff list as presented to me by the company. I have the ability to lay out lists of people with that experience in a way that suits me. For example – I want to find everyone in our intranet with experience of business or marketing, and within that list I want to find the most active intranet users – as they might be creating useful resources for me.
Simple – just type the same two words into a people search, ask for the list to show Intranet Rank, and click to sort.
Sometimes simple things in an intranet add so much value.
